Minimum Industry Safety Training (MIST)

Course Info

Duration : 2 Day(s)

Approval: OPITO

Description:

The course is OPITO Approved and is conducted in accordance with their training standards. The training programme is designed to introduce the fundamental safety elements of the offshore oil & gas industry to people new to the industry.  It gives an appreciation of the potential hazards and controls that might be encountered by personnel offshore.

The course consists of 5 separate modules.  Each module has been designed to focus the learners’ attention on their personal responsibility for safety thus influencing their behaviour and attitude towards their co-workers, the installation and the environment. Following an initial Introduction to the Hazardous Offshore Environment, the remaining modules will train the learner about the various roles and responsibilities associated with working offshore. These modules are:

         Module 1: Major Accident Hazards
Module 2: Workplace Hazards and Personal Safety
         Module 3: Risk Management
         Module 4: Control of Work
         Module 5: Helicopter Safety

Each module is assessed by a test paper to determine competence. A pass mark of 80% is required on each module. Learners failing to meet the minimum standard will be given further training and reassessed. Learners still failing to meet training outcomes even after further training will be required to re-take the entire course.

Certificates are issued to learners upon successful completion of the course.  Certificates are valid for 4 years.
